Visiting: Inken Baller & Hinrich Baller Berlin 1966-89
buildings in West Berlin and one residential building in Switzerland. Although most of their buildings were created within the narrow framework of social housing, they always offer more than the standard: filigree, brightness, large balconies, terraces and gardens, good lighting thanks to glazed interior walls, generous flat layouts, complex spatial relationships over several floors. With their unconventional residential and public buildings, the Ballers created situations that continue to serve as role models for high-quality, affordable living space and exciting urban spaces.
This comprehensive overview of their work, first published as a brochure in 2022 by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König and quickly sold out, is now being published in a corrected new edition. It offers detailed photographic documentation of the current condition of the buildings in use as well as the complete and edited original plans. These are supplemented by documents such as sales brochures, construction site photos and aerial photographs. Essays and interviews with Inken and Hinrich Baller as well as with residents of the houses round off the reflection on the content.
