Paris Métro Architecture & Design Map is the fourth title in our public transport series following maps for the London Underground, Moscow Metro and New York Subway (available as a set here).
Transport design historian Mark Ovenden, the author of our London Underground Architecture & Design Map, has curated this unique, bilingual (in English and French) guide map featuring landmark Art Nouveau entrances and ceramic-tiled platforms, Art Deco signage and mid-century murals across fifty of the Paris Métro’s finest stations.
Alongside the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame, the classic Art Nouveau entrances to the Métro are a visual shorthand for the city of Paris itself. Although it was not the first city to bury its rail network in tunnels, the panache of the early station entrances and style of today’s Métro make this one of the most iconic transport systems in the world.
This two-sided cartographic guide with original photography by Nigel Green provides fascinating insight into the Métro’s visual design and architecture for anyone interested in the City of Light and its magnificent Métro.
