We are doomed to repair. In the face of a world that is ageing, passing away at every moment, this is not a surprising realisation. However, capitalist modernity, with its emphasis on innovation, growth and progress, its economic system based on consumption, use and waste, and the ruthless exploitation of natural resources that goes with it, has entrenched a throwaway mentality in our minds: everything is replaceable.
