“The Happy End of Franz Kafka’s “Amerika” is Martin Kippenberger’s largest and most complex work. The artist spent several years on the preparations, research and production measures. The large-scale installation on a stylised football field consists of fifty table and chair ensembles. more In addition to icons of furniture design and found objects, these also include specific pieces made by Kippenberger as well as works by numerous artist friends, including Cosima von Bonin, Tony Oursler, Ulrich Strothjohann and Jason Rhodes. The publication approaches the work from different perspectives. It is the first time that the “biographies” of the individual objects and their contexts of origin and collection are covered in great detail thanks to extensive research work and offer a new approach to the life and oeuvre of Martin Kippenberger.
