The Baffler publishes cultural analysis, short stories, poems, art and left-wing political criticism six times a year. This latest edition is themed ‘Life Alert’ and examines age across the spectrum.
It’s a unique moment to talk about ageing because, as editor Matthew Shen Goodman writes, ‘there have never been so many of us of so many ages (nearly a third of the eight billion people alive today are under eighteen), and so there are an unprecedented number of generations now existing.’
As always, The Baffler examines their theme from a number of different angles: LGBTQ seniors struggle to receive sexual healthcare from Medicare, school kids playact adult life at immersive learning experience BizTown, novelist Cecil Brown digitally revives enslaved antebellum poet George Moses Horton, and more.
