Spectral 2022–2025 is a publication documenting the eponymous project conducted by six artist-run film labs during this period. In 2020, in the wake of the pandemic, Filmwerkplaats (NL), Labor Berlin (DE), Mire (FR), BAL (LV), Crater-Lab (ES), and Laboratorio da Torre (PT) joined forces to try to enrich contemporary Expanded Cinema in the European Union. The initiative consisted of engineering new machinery for analogue film production, supporting new works through residencies and screenings, and establishing new spaces and contexts to present this artistic field—one that remains highly marginalized, even within the experimental cinema circuit.
