La Frana - Sabine Tholen
On 23 August 2017, an entire section of Piz Cengalo in the Sciora Group (GR) collapsed with a deafening roar. Three million cubic metres of rock and mud plunged at high speed into the Bondasca Valley as far as the village of Bondo, sweeping away houses, roads and infrastructure and leaving behind a five-kilometre-long stone desert. La Frana is the conclusion of a multi-year artistic project that began during this landslide. The natural disaster, documented by Sabine Tholen in photographs and drawings, is complemented by contributions from specialists of the territory and the mountain world, bringing essential reflections on the profound transformation of contemporary territory, the effects associated with the Antropocene and the resulting climatic urgency.
