As he began editing down his sneaker collection, Eric Ng documented each pair as a miniature painting rendered in outstanding detail. Beyond an exercise in shape and scale, his Sneaker Eulogy series is an autobiographical album of iconic designs; a tribute to the culture. Whether the Nike Air Yeezy II, the New Balance 990 v5, or the Air Dior, his paintings reveal how every sneaker asserts a distinct personality. Fanatics and casual fans alike will marvel over the accuracy with which Ng captures the various materials of each Air Jordan, or the way some pairs appear more worn than others – never mind the impressive breadth of the collection itself. Born in Hong Kong before moving to Australia, Eric Ng has a degree in architecture and furniture design. As a visual artist who explores painting and photography, he is self-taught. His work has been featured in magazines such as Sneaker Freaker and Street Style, and in numerous art shows. In November, 2020, Ng’s Sneaker Eulogy series was the subject of a solo exhibition in Sydney, where he is currently based.
