The Boy is Beautiful #2

The Boy is Beautiful #2

On the surface of a red-figure Attica vase, some thousands years ago, an inscription reading “ο Παῖς Καλός” had been engraved. Translating as The Boy Is Beautiful this intricate detail transforms a common vessel into a declaration of homoerotic affection; echoing the sexual liberation of a bygone era. The Boy Is Beautiful is a biannual magazine but also an invitation to unravel the thread of queer Greek chronicles, from myth and history, to contemporary life. It’s a quest to figure out what happened between the time of Zeus and Ganymede, Apollo and Hyacinth, Achilles and Patroclus, the Band of Thebes and the Lesbian Sappho, Harmodius and Aristogeiton and my fascist, sexist, homophobic school mates, Thursdays’ straightwashed history lessons and Symposium-less Plato. The new issue of The Boy is Beautiful just arrived in our store and online shop - and we couldn't be more excited! Buy
Butt #30

Butt #30

Founded in 2001, BUTT was as sassy as its name suggests. The quarterly magazine informed gay lifestyle trends, interviewed dozens of queer artists and published editorials that were both non-sexual and deliriously horny. BUTT’s aesthetic was hairy, authentic, intimate and shameless. Through fan-submitted photos, stories and articles, BUTT offered real insights into the contemporary gay lifestyle and built a strong community. Until it was discontinued in 2011. And now it’s back after more than ten years! The reborn BUTT picks up where it left off with issue 30, which features conversations with AA Bronson and male trans porn star Billy Vega, DJ Babynymph, art by Ajamu X and Sunil Gupta, poetry, diaries and a cover story by Clifford Prince King. AIKO - Florian Hetz

AIKO

Florian Hetz
AIKO is a visual and very personal diary by Berlin based photographer Florian Hetz. He turns his very own, unique gaze on the male body - its fears and obsessions, its shame and its lust. He successfully captures the breathing-sculpture quality of the portrayed men without turning them into objects of voyeuristic or even pornographic desire. The touching, intimate photographs tell a story about togetherness and loneliness. Buy
Mirage Edition No.1 : La Isla - Kate Bellm

La Isla

Kate Bellm
Between rough rocks, dry vegetation and blindingly glistening water, a new kind of family was born - a group of friends who share adventure, community and light-heartedness. Kate Bellm has enchantingly captured the sun-drenched lives around the reef of her and her friends. The images make you dream of free diving, starry nights, warm sun-kissed skin and a playful life. "La Isla" is the island of Mallorca, their home of choice, but also the island in spirit, far from the social norms of normal society, that this group of friends have created for themselves. So take a deep breath and jump with them into a remote world made of psychedelic skies, otherworldly desert plants, trippy escapes and intimate encounters under the sea. Buy
Sara. Corpo e Mondo

Sara. Corpo e Mondo

Dario Salamone
Sara. Corpo e Mondo is the title of Dario Salamone's new book. Sara is also the name of the protagonist who exposes her body to the camera's gaze on a deserted beach in this photo series. In the book's photographs, taken in just a few hours during a non-stop session, Sara enters into an effortless dialogue with the photographer. And because Sara's curves and the photos' unedited immediacy paint a counter-image to false ideals dictated by advertisements, this series of photographs is also a social and cultural critique. Sara's lightness invites a more positive body image that does not exclude bodies that do not fit into a certain image. Buy
BODY Book - Lotte van Raalte

BODY Book

Lotte van Raalte
The female body has not been owned by women for a long time. The way it is portrayed is dictated by advertising, the way it is viewed is dictated by the male gaze, what and how much of it should be seen is dictated by society and our nipples belong to Instagram and are locked behind little gif stickers. That's why this book is so refreshing. Body shows photographs of 46 women in their most natural form. Lotte van Raalte explores the female body with her camera without sexualising, without judging, without shaming, but with a loving eye for all shapes, ages and colours. The result is incredibly intimate and breathtaking. Time to reclaim our bodies and love them as they are! Buy
Interview with Frank Rocholl and Henrik Purienne

Interview with Frank Rocholl and Henrik Purienne

Please note: You are about to enter the cosmos of Mirage. A sensual exploration of a feeling, maybe an attitude, embedded in paper and created by the German Graphic Designer and Art Director Frank Rocholl who happened to stand in front of the Kloofhill house, Cape Town. Its owner, South African Filmmaker and Photographer Henrik Purienne, remembers: „Eye for detail for sure. Casual chat. Common interests.“ That was that. What followed were four issues of Mirage (2009-2014), JamaisVu. Mirage Anthology. (2016), a side project by Purienne Jeux de Peaux (2019) all filled with vast horizons, deep blue seawater, endless Summer pool-side days, beautiful women, fast vintage cars, timeless design classics…Sounds too cliche? Well, we agree. But though, Mirage is filled with outwardly alluring phenomena it does prove that beautiful and glossy doesn't equal superficiality. Buy More
Mirage # 5 2020

Mirage # 5 2020

Voyage Lumière
While temperatures dropping and leaves already start to fall, we got gifted with a printed never ending summer! After years Mirage Magazine is back with a fifth issue and we could not be more excited! There is something about the hedonistic lifestyle of the 60s and 70s: The French Riviera, Brigitte Bardot, Gunter Sachs, a seemingly never-ending fun, unfussy, intellectual but easy, moonlight baths, parties, naps in the hammock, artists, musicians, driving a classic car along the coastline, sailing, dancing on the terrace, reading by the pool - and everything in front of a backdrop of modernist architecture and eclectic interiors. Mirage Magazine, the brain child of Henrik Purienne, mixes nostalgic pictures from this wild era and contemporary photoshoots of beautiful woman with the same easiness into a bohemian futurism of glistening skin. Btw we still have some of the mirage books Jamais Vu left.⠀ Buy
Odiseo #12 2018

Odiseo #12 2018

Uniformity
Odiseo, volume 12 is a response to the rhythms of constancy and consistency in life. It evokes ideas of singularity and unconformity but also points at the significance of patterns and belonging, which among other things, helps explain the schisms in our behaviour and mindsets when we are with others and when when we are alone. The need to be part of something larger than ourselves and the need to be left alone. The cultural exigencies and the individual drives and personal peculiarities. Additionally, the written side of the magazine explores the role of artificial intelligence in raising our self-consciousness. Buy
